Arizona designated Abner for assignment Sunday.
Abner made just three appearances after being recalled from Reno on Aug. 5. Over five innings, the left-hander allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out just one batter. The Diamondbacks selected Dennis Santana's contract to replace Abner on both the active and 40-man rosters.
