Ray allowed four runs on six hits and three walks across four innings en route to a no-decision Sunday against the Pirates. He struck out two.

Ray was fortunate to escape a jam having allowed just one run in the first and yielded three more on a pair of home runs in the third. He labored at times, needing 88 pitches to make it through four frames, and was removed early in what turned out to be his shortest outing of the season. Ray owned a 3.47 ERA after six starts, but he has allowed nine runs in 10 innings since then to see that figure jump over a full run. He has also begun to develop noticeable home/away splits in 2017, though the sample size is still small, and he will look to bounce back in a favorable matchup on the road against the Padres this Saturday.
