Ryan allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Sunday.

Ryan yielded a two-run home run to Brent Rooker in the first inning and put traffic on the bases in three of the next four frames. After loading the bases with two outs in the fifth inning, Ryan was pulled at 75 pitches (48 strikes), and Evan Phillips escaped the jam. While it was the shortest of his three starts and the first time he's given up multiple runs, this wasn't necessarily a poor showing from Ryan. He has a 1.72 ERA despite a 1.28 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB over 15.2 innings. That walk rate is what portends the most trouble for him in the majors if he can't get it under control. Walker Buehler (hip) will require at least one more rehab start, so Ryan can tentatively be penciled in for a home start versus the Pirates next weekend.
