Rays closer Fernando Rodney, who admitted that he felt "a little tired" after throwing 32 pitches in two innings Saturday, was still called upon to close out the Tigers in the ninth Sunday.
Rodney allowed a hit but got the job done for his 17th save on the season. He struck out two batters over 20 pitches as 11 went for strikes. Rodney lowered his ERA on the year to 4.41.
He has made six consecutive scoreless appearances with a win and four saves over that stretch since allowing his last runs. Rodney has gone 17 for 22 in save situations this season.
