Villar was removed from the lineup by Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday in the fourth inning, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com.
Villar's removal is all but assuredly related to J.D. Davis (undisclosed) exiting with an injury against the Cardinals on Tuesday. The infielder would likely serve in a utility role if and when he receives a promotion come Wednesday.
