Ruggiano had his contract purchased from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The Giants are wasting no time deploying him, as Ruggiano is slated to play left field and bat sixth against the Reds on Saturday. The 35-year-old appeared in just nine major-league games last season, though he batted .333 and swat two homers over 24 at-bats during the brief stint. He'll offer a strong bat against left-handed pitching for the Giants, though it's unclear how many at-bats he'll see. Drew Stubbs was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Ruggiano.
