Gallegos cleared waivers and elected free agency Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The Cardinals will be on the hook for what remains of Gallegos' $5.75 million salary this season and the $500,000 buyout on his $6.5 million club option for 2025. The veteran reliever had been a staple of St. Louis' bullpen and tallied 38 saves and 56 holds over the previous three seasons, but he struggled this year with a 6.53 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB across 20.2 innings before being designated for assignment last weekend.
