White Sox starting pitcher Hector Santiago was lucky to take a no-decision Wednesday night at home against the Yankees. With the New York offense finally coming alive behind a solid outing from CC Sabathia, it wasn't until the White Sox tied the score off Mariano Rivera in the ninth that Santiago was left of the hook for the loss.
The 25-year-old starter remains 3-7 on the season for Chicago with a solid 3.43 ERA after allowing four earned runs Wednesday on seven hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five and was hurt by allowing two home runs. Alfonso Soriano got to him immediately with a two-run homer in the first inning.
Santiago hasn't won a start since June 21 at Kansas City, despite allowing three earned runs or fewer in his previous six outings. He took a step back Wednesday, but should be able to bounce back for the Sox. Santiago is next scheduled to start for manager Robin Ventura on Tuesday against Detroit.
