Rays starting pitcher prospect Jake Odorizzi combined with three other pitchers to throw a no-hitter for Triple-A Durham Sunday. Odorizzi did most of the work, tossing seven shutout innings.
He walked four batters and struck out three, while winning a third straight start.
"The approach was the same as every game," Odorizzi said, per MLB.com. "I was just throwing the fastball and mixing in my other stuff, trying to keep guys off-balanced. That's basically what we did today. I left some stuff up today, and the one or two times they hit balls decent, they were right at guys. It was one of those days when everything was going right."
Odorizzi is 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA and .178 opponents' batting average in six starts. He hasn't allowed a run in his last two starts (12 innings). Odorizzi has 39 strikeouts in 34 innings.
