Lowrie announced his retirement from baseball Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Lowrie batted just .180/.245/.263 in 184 plate appearances last season with the Athletics before getting released in August. The 38-year-old infielder will hang up his cleats with 1,185 career hits and a lifetime .257/.330/.406 slash line spread over parts of 14 major-league campaigns. Beyond his seven years with the A's, he also spent time with the Red Sox, Astros and Mets.
