The Royals requested unconditional release waivers on Zimmer on Monday.
Zimmer was designated for assignment by the Royals on Friday and will now be free to seek out other opportunities. He made 52 appearances (two starts) in the majors during the 2021 campaign and posted a 4.83 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 54 innings.
