Newsome (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this summer, MLB.com reports.
Scott Hanson of The Seattle Times relayed back in May that Tommy John surgery was a possibility for the right-hander after he was initially placed on the IL with elbow inflammation, and the 24-year-old appears to have in fact had the procedure at some point over the past few months. Newsome's rehab from surgery will likely extend through the 2022 season, though he should be at or near full strength for the start of spring training in 2023.
