Cabrera (thumb) may fill in at second base when he returns from the disabled list, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
Neil Walker (hamstring) is looking at an extended absence, which has left a hole at second base for the Mets. Cabrera has experience at second base, including 48 starts at that spot while with the Nationals in 2014. If the Mets do opt to use Cabrera there, Gavin Cecchini would be a candidate to be sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas.
