Montgomery was released by the Mets on Sunday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Montgomery was being stretched out during spring training so he could pitch in multiple roles in 2021, but he failed to win an Opening Day roster spot. As a result, the Mets will grant Montgomery his release so he can seek out other opportunities ahead of the regular season. The southpaw made three relief appearances this spring and allowed four hits and one walk while striking out seven in 4.2 scoreless innings.
