Garces threw 2.1 innings of relief Thursday, allowing three hits, three earned runs and walking one, while striking out three in Triple-A El Paso's 8-0 loss to Reno.
Garces is one of the few left-handed relievers in San Diego's system, but Thursday's performance doesn't bode well for his major league chances. Despite a 1.93 ERA in 4.2 innings during spring training, he didn't make the big league club, and if he continues to struggle in Triple-A, a call-up will become less likely.
