McCoy is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in St. Louis, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
McCoy had made seven straight starts at shortstop as the Padres deal with the loss of Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder), but he will begin Thursday's game on the bench. Tyler Wade will get the nod at shortstop for San Diego and will bat ninth.
