Monteverde cleared waivers and elected to become a free agent Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Monteverde made one relief appearance each of the last two seasons with the Marlins, and he logged an unimpressive 5.84 ERA and 79:41 K:BB over 106.1 innings in 2026 at Triple-A Jacksonville. The 29-year-old southpaw will likely have to settle for a minor-league contract this winter.
