Velasquez's (elbow) MRI revealed a minor flexor strain, Ryan Lawrence of The Philly Voice reports. General manager Matt Klentak said that the result was "as good of news as [the Phillies] could have hoped for."
Elbow issues are always concerning for pitchers, but it appears that Velasquez's particular diagnosis is the best case scenario all things considered. There's still no firm timetable for his return, but it appears that Velasquez will avoid a multi-month stint on the disabled list. Nick Pivetta will likely hold down a rotation spot in Velasquez's absence. The Phillies are set to shut Velasquez down for "a couple weeks," before deciding the next step of his rehab process, according to Stephen Gross of The Morning Call.
