The Pirates selected Mattson was selected from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Mattson signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates in December and has been through Double-A and Triple-A during 2024. He has appeared in 30 games for Triple-A Indianapolis, notching a 3.19 ERA across 62.0 innings. The 29-year-old made his last and only MLB appearances in 2021 for Baltimore, where he allowed three earned runs in 4.1 innings. In a corresponding move, Jake Woodford was designated for assignment Thursday.
