The Pirates will promote Woodford from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Woodford hasn't performed well in the big leagues this season, turning in an 8.01 ERA and 1.62 WHIP across 30.1 innings between the White Sox and Pirates. However, he's allowed three earned runs in nine innings with Indianapolis since his last MLB appearance, so Pittsburgh will entrust the 27-year-old with a spot start against his former club Wednesday.
