Smyly lasted just 3.2 innings Wednesday in a start against the Orioles, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks, receiving no decision. He struck out two.
Smyly recorded just 11 outs on 88 pitches Wednesday, but was spared the loss as the Rays chased Baltimore starter Dylan Bundy after just 3.2 innings as well, and eventually won the game 7-6. Smyly has disappointed expectations this season, sporting a 5.05 ERA over 28 starts. His 1.28 WHIP suggests some back luck, but he's also given up 30 home runs, good enough for fifth most in the major leagues. He'll try to right the ship on Monday against the Blue Jays.
