The Rays designated Gilmartin for assignment Tuesday.
Gilmartin surrendered his spot on the 40-man roster to pitching prospect Shane McClanahan, who will join the Tampa Bay bullpen for the team's postseason run. The 30-year-old Gilmartin made two appearances for the big club during the regular season, giving up four earned runs in 4.1 innings of relief.
