Rays manager Kevin Cash confirmed Friday that Chirinos would need Tommy John surgery, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Chirinos will almost certainly miss the entirety of the 2021 campaign in addition to the remainder of this season. He should have time to be ready for the start of the 2022 season, at which point he'll be 29 years old. Josh Fleming will be called up to take his place in the rotation.
