Johnson (hamstring) threw a 33-pitch bullpen session Tuesday with no restrictions and is the leading candidate to start Friday against the Tigers, Scott Lauber of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson has a 2.72 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 42:17 K:BB in 46.1 innings at Triple-A, but has been much better with his control in two big-league starts. His 14:3 K:BB in 14 innings may not be sustainable going forward, but he exhibited excellent control prior to an elbow injury in 2015 and a bout with anxiety disorder in 2016. If the left-hander commands his four-pitch mix, Johnson's an intriguing option in deeper leagues if he gets healthy in time for this weekend's series.
