The Red Sox designated Anderson for assignment Sunday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
The veteran right-hander was tagged for nine runs (three earned) in his last two appearances and has now lost his place on the MLB roster. Anderson tallied three saves for Boston this season, but all were of the three-inning variety as he pitched almost exclusively in lower-leverage spots. He totaled a 4.85 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 35:19 K:BB over 52 innings.
