The Red Sox designated Rosario for assignment Wednesday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Within the past two days, Boston has now dropped both of the prospects it acquired in the August 2020 deal that sent Mitch Moreland to San Diego from its 40-man roster. After infielder Hudson Potts was designated for assignment Tuesday to clear room for waiver pickup Kyle Tyler, Rosario will now cede his spot on the roster to newly-signed infielder Trevor Story. The 22-year-old Rosario stumbled through a tough first full season in the Boston organization in 2021, posting a lowly .641 OPS over 405 plate appearances at Double-A Portland.
