Mayer hasn't played since July 30 due to a hip issue, but he is considered day-to-day, Katie Morrison-O'Day of MassLive.com reports.
The issue is irritation and lingering tightness in his lower-back/upper-glute area. The plan is to take a cautious approach, but it was reported by Marc Cerullo of the Boston Herald that the hope was for Mayer to get into action by the end of the week. He was promoted to Triple-A Worcester last weekend but still hasn't played in a game after slashing .307/.370/.480 with eight home runs and 13 steals in 77 games for Double-A Portland.
