Contreras was among the first 11 cuts by the Reds, getting optioned to Triple-A Louisville.
Contreras's control fell apart last season, with an added bonus of losing velocity. He's still on the 40-man roster and thus could get a call when the Reds make their first bullpen changes, but he's also on the short list of getting designated for assignment for one of their prospects.
