Royals' Bobby Witt: Missing out on fifth straight start

Witt (knee) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Though he's out of the starting nine for a fifth consecutive game while he tends to a Grade 1 MCL sprain, Witt noted that his right knee is feeling better with each passing day, per Brian Murphy of MLB.com. For the third day in a row, Witt said that he will field groundballs and hit in the batting cage prior to the game, and he expects to be available off the bench if he's needed. The Royals will likely re-evaluate Witt on Thursday before determining if he's ready to return to the lineup for the series finale in Tampa Bay, but even if he requires another day off, the two-time All-Star looks poised to avoid a stint on the injured list.
