The Tigers scratched Baez from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox due to right thumb soreness, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Harold Castro will enter the lineup as a replacement for Baez, starting at shortstop and batting sixth. The Tigers haven't suggested that Baez's injury is a major concern, so he can be considered day-to-day heading into Thursday's series opener in Kansas City.
