Mayberry signed a minor league deal with the Tigers on Wednesday, which includes an invite to spring training, Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports.
The 32-year-old outfielder has a .260/.315/.517 career slash line against lefties, but he was ineffective against both hands last season, hitting .164 with three home runs in 119 plate appearances with the Mets. Cameron Maybin, Anthony Gose and J.D. Martinez figure to be the starters in the outfield for the Tigers, but Gose (career .202 hitter against lefties) could use a platoon partner, which would be where Mayberry fits in if he is able to make the team out of spring training. Otherwise he will just be an organizational soldier at Triple-A to start the year.
