The Tigers will recall Torkelson from Triple-A Toledo prior to Saturday's game against the Yankees, Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press reports.
After a 31-homer campaign in 2023, Torkelson was expected to be a staple in the heart of the Detroit lineup all season, but he was sent down to the minors June 3 after slashing .201/.266/.330 with four home runs across 229 plate appearances with the Tigers. After a somewhat lackluster first month in Toledo, Torkelson has shown improved form at the plate for the Triple-A club since the All-Star break, slashing .242/.374/.516 with six home runs and an 18.3 percent walk rate over his last 24 games. The Tigers appear ready to give the 24-year-old Torkelson another look as their everyday first baseman, with Bligh Madris getting optioned back to Toledo in a corresponding move.
