Lopez was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
He had a good spring and made a minor adjustment on the mound, moving from the right corner of the pitching rubber to the middle; the early returns were quite good. Lopez logged a 3.72 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 19.1 innings this spring. It's a small spring sample, but Lopez outperformed Lucas Giolito and Carson Fulmer in big league camp, and he could be the first of the White Sox's young arms to get a call when reinforcements in the rotation are needed. Lopez's 6-foot stature and fringe-average command have many pegging him as a future reliever, but the White Sox will likely give him a long leash as a starter, given his electric stuff and the fact that the team is rebuilding.
