The White Sox designated Hill for assignment Wednesday.
The left-hander joined Chicago on a one-year contract during the offseason, but he struggled in 27 outings with a 5.87 ERA, 2.22 WHIP and 13:10 K:BB over 23 innings. Assuming he clears waivers, Hill could opt for free agency rather than accepting an assignment to Triple-A Charlotte.
