Rice went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run against the Phillies in Monday's 14-4 victory.
Rice hit one of six Yankees homers in the contest, smashing a solo shot in the second inning. The rookie had been cold coming in, slashing just .107/.229/.214 without a homer over his previous nine games. It remains to be seen what the Yankees will do on the final day before the trade deadline, but Rice appears to have a path to a near-everyday role at first base -- at least until Anthony Rizzo (forearm) return to health -- after J.D. Davis was designated for assignment Sunday.
