Schmidt (elbow) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
Schmidt has been on the IL all season while he's rehabbed from the internal brace procedure he underwent last July. The 30-year-old hurler could begin a minor-league rehab assignment before the end of August if his live BP session Tuesday goes well. Schmidt could then return to the big-league club at some point in September, though the expectation is that he will work out of the bullpen.
