Tate was traded to the Yankees by the Rangers on Monday in exchange for Carlos Beltran, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.
Tate was the Rangers' first-round pick (fourth overall) in the 2015 draft. He's struggled with his control so far in 2016, posting a 5.12 ERA and 1.61 WHIP with 55 strikeouts in 65 innings. When Tate was drafted, there was talk of him potentially being a high-leverage bullpen arm in the big leagues. Due to his struggles so far this season as a starter, it wouldn't be surprising to see that come true with the Yankees. That said, New York will most likely send Tate to Low-A Charleston and use him as a starter initially.
