The Yankees outrighted Smith to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
Prior reports suggested that Smith declined the assignment and planned to pursue free agency, but the infielder will end up sticking around in the Yankees organization. Smith will provide infield depth for the Yankees at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
