The Yankees designated Burdi for assignment Saturday.
Burdi has allowed four runs (three earned) across 9.2 innings since being activated off the injured list and optioned to Triple-A in August. Despite his relative success, he'll be squeezed off the 40-man roster as the Yankees make room for Clarke Schmidt (lat) and Ian Hamilton (lat), both of whom returned from the 60-day IL on Saturday.
