Nathan Eovaldi has been a pleasant surprise for the Yankees in their chase for the division title, but Saturday, the starter had his first stumble since June, dropping a decision to the Rays.
Eovaldi pitched well, giving up just three runs on five hits, but struggled with his command, walking four hitters. That drove his pitch count up, and he was lifted after 5 1/3 innings and 102 pitches.
Eovaldi (14-3) had one nine straight decisions since a June 16 defeat at the hands of the Marlins. He still leads in the AL in win percentage.
