  • Shairon Martis: Playing independent ball

    Martis signed a contract with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the independent American Association on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. Martis spent the entire 2018 season with the Saltdogs, posting a 5.01 ERA and 1.403 WHIP across 41.1 innings. He hasn't pitched in the majors since notching a 5.59 ERA across 9.2 innings with the Twins in 2013.

  • Martis signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Wednesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Martis spent the past couple seasons in the independent American Association, but he most recently put his talents on display for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic. His five solid relief appearances were evidently enough to warrant a minor-league deal, although he'll need to prove he can handle advanced hitters again after being away from affiliated baseball for a while.

  • Shairon Martis signs in Taiwan

    Former Nationals and Twins pitcher Shairon Martis has signed a deal to pitch in Taiwan, according to SB Nation. Martin had two minor-league offers to pitch in MLB, but opted to take on a bigger role elsewhere. Martin posted a 5.35 ERA in 116 career innings.

  • Twins remove four from 40-man roster

    The Twins outrighted outfielder Clete Thomas and pitchers Cole De Vries, Josh Roenicke and Shairon Martis off the 40-man roster Wednesday. Thomas hit .214/.290/.307 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 290 at-bats with the Twins this season. De Vries went 0-2 and gave up 18 earned runs in 15 innings over four appearances (two starts) with the major-league team. Roenicke went 3-1 with a 4.35 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 45:36 K:BB ratio in 62 innings over 63 appearances with the Twins. Martis made six relief appearances with the Twins, posting a 5.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB ratio in 9 2/3 innings while allowing three home runs on six hits.

  • Twins recall seven from Triple-A

    The Twins recalled seven players from Triple-A Rochester Sunday, including shortstop Eduardo Escobar, outfielders Eric Fryer and Chris Parmelee, and pitchers Scott Diamond, Michael Tonkin, Cole De Vries and Shairon Martis. All seven players have previous major-league experience and will serve as depth for the Twins in the final weeks of the season.
