• Wilson Ramos: Signs with Atlantic League team

  Ramos agreed to a deal Tuesday with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. Ramos had been catching for Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League, but he'll move to New York with designs on breaking back into MLB-affiliated ball. The 35-year-old former two-time All-Star last played in the majors in 2021, when he struggled to a .205/.248/.397 batting line in 44 games (163 plate appearances) between Detroit and Cleveland.

• Wilson Ramos: Cut loose by Texas

  The Rangers released Ramos on Sept. 10. After signing a minor-league deal with Texas in mid-August, Ramos saw action in just three games for Triple-A Round Rock before the organization elected to cut ties with him. Ramos turned 35 years old in August and may be running out of chances to re-emerge as a big-league catcher.

  Ramos signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Tuesday and was assigned to Triple-A Round Rock. Ramos' recovery from the torn ACL he sustained last September was likely the main reason the 35-year-old backstop had remained unsigned throughout the winter and the 2022 season until he struck a deal with Texas. Now presumably healthy, Ramos will settle in as organizational depth at the Triple-A level, though he could be in line for a late-season call-up if the Rangers require an additional catcher behind the two options on the active roster, Jonah Heim and Meibrys Viloria.

• Indians' Wilson Ramos: Undergoes surgery

  Ramos underwent surgery Wednesday to repair his torn ACL in his left knee, James Wagner of The New York Times reports. Ramos was diagnosed with a torn ACL and sprained MCL at the end of August and was placed on the 60-day injured list as a result. The 34-year-old had already undergone two surgeries to repair his ACL in the past, and it's not yet clear when he'll be ready to return as he prepares for free agency this winter.

• Indians' Wilson Ramos: Moves to injured list

  Ramos (knee) was placed on the injured list Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Ramos was already declared out for the season after suffering a torn ACL and sprained MCL in Sunday's win over Boston. With both of Cleveland's Triple-A catchers in COVID protocol, and Roberto Perez (shoulder) still on the injured list, the club has called up Gianpaul Gonzalez from High-A Lake County to serve as Austin Hedges' backup.
