Tomlin (neck) had his team option declined by Atlanta on Saturday. Tomlin will be paid a $250,000 buyout rather than a $1.25 million salary. The 37-year-old struggled to a 6.57 ERA in 49.1 innings of relief this season and could struggle to earn a major-league deal over the winter given his age and recent performance.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Wednesday that Tomlin (neck) isn't expected to be activated from the injured list before the end of the regular season, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Though Tomlin tossed a simulated game Wednesday to seemingly put him in position for a return from the IL this weekend, Snitker indicated the right-hander is merely in the process of ramping up in case Atlanta needs an extra arm out of the bullpen. At this point, Tomlin doesn't look to be in consideration for a spot on Atlanta's postseason roster, should the team beat out Philadelphia for the division title. Before landing on the IL on Aug. 31, Tomlin had surrendered 10 earned runs in 4.1 innings over his final two relief appearances.

Tomlin (neck) completed a simulated game Wednesday and could be reinstated from the 10-day injured list this weekend, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. After making a three-inning rehab appearance for Triple-A Gwinnett on Sept. 17, Tomlin has rejoined the big club to continue his ramp-up program. Assuming his neck checks out fine following Wednesday's throwing session, Tomlin may get the opportunity to pitch out of the bullpen in Atlanta's final series of the regular season versus the Mets in what could amount to a de facto audition for the playoff roster.

Tomlin (neck) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. Tomlin has been on the injured list with a neck strain since Aug. 31. Given the length of his absence, the club will likely want him to get two or three outings in with Gwinnett before he rejoins the major-league roster. With that in mind, he could be activated toward the end of next week.

Tomlin was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a neck strain. Tomlin hasn't pitched in a game since Aug. 18, so it's unclear how exactly he picked up the injury. Edgar Santana was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.
