Kluber announced his retirement from professional baseball Friday, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The final five seasons of Kluber's career were filled with injuries and some lackluster production. However, the 37-year-old's six-year run from 2013-18 is unimpeachable, featuring a 2.96 ERA, 1,364 strikeouts over 1238.2 innings, three All-Star Game appearances and two American League Cy Young awards. Kluber finished with a career 3.44 ERA and 116 wins over 13 major-league seasons.

Kluber (shoulder) didn't commit to pitching in 2024 when asked about his plans Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Kluber missed the entire second half of the season due to shoulder inflammation, and he only posted a 7.04 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 55 innings when healthy -- a far cry from his career 3.44 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Given Kluber's health, recent performance and the fact he'll turn 38 in April, it's worth wondering if the two-time AL Cy Young Award winner will decide to hang up his cleats.

The Red Sox declined Kluber's $11 million option for 2024 on Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Shoulder problems kept Kluber from pitching past late June, and he only managed a 7.04 ERA and 1.64 WHIP while healthy. The right-hander will turn 38 in April, and he could have trouble finding a team willing to give him a spot in its rotation at this point in his career.

Kluber (shoulder) feels healthy but will not pitch again this season, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. Kluber has been throwing off a big-league mound since late June due to shoulder inflammation, but he'd been working his way back, making a pair of rehab appearances for Triple-A Worcester over the last week. With the Red Sox falling out of the playoff race, they won't ask the 37-year-old righty to put more miles on his arm in what have become essentially meaningless games. The fact that Kluber at least made it back for some rehab games bodes well for his readiness for the start of next season, though his 7.04 ERA in 55 innings this season means his opportunities may be limited.

Kluber (shoulder) allowed two hits and struck out two over 2.2 scoreless innings for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. Kluber threw 23 strikes among his 35 pitches. This was his second rehab outing, and the right-hander has not allowed a run or walk. He's expected to pitch out of the bullpen after being activated off the injured list.
