• Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Signs one-year deal

  Goldschmidt signed a one-year, $12.5 million contract with the Yankees on Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. The Yankees were left needing a first baseman after declining Anthony Rizzo's club option in November, and bringing in Goldschmidt will provide a short-term solution for 2025. The 37-year-old slashed .245/.302/.414 with 22 home runs, 65 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 154 games last year -- a sharp decline from his NL MVP campaign in 2022. That being said, fantasy managers may still be able to squeeze some value out of Goldschmidt, as he has rarely fallen short of the 20-homer mark in his 14-year career, and joining a lineup that also features Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger could boost his RBI and run totals.

• Paul Goldschmidt: Will not be given qualifying offer

  Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak confirmed Monday that the team will not extend Goldschmidt a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer, John Denton of MLB.com reports. It's been reported previously that the Cardinals are also not expected to negotiate with Goldschmidt on a lesser salary, so the veteran first baseman will be allowed to depart as a free agent. Goldschmidt slashed just .245/.302/.414 with 22 home runs in 2024 and turned 37 in September, but he should still draw some interest from clubs willing to take a shot on a bounce-back year in 2025.

• Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Three-hit effort in loss

  Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Giants. Goldschmidt made two outs in the contest, and he generated an RBI on each of those plays. One was a sacrifice fly and the other was a groundout. He's batting .250 (9-for-36) over his last nine games and now has a .245/.301/.412 slash line with 22 home runs, 64 RBI, 70 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and 32 doubles over 153 contests.

  Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 10-8 loss to the Rockies. Goldschmidt went back-to-back with Lars Nootbaar in the first inning. This long ball ended a 19-game homer drought for Goldschmidt, who hit just .197 (13-for-66) in that span. The first baseman is up to 22 homers on the year, but his .241/.299/.403 slash line represents career-low numbers across the board. He's added 62 RBI, 69 runs scored and 11 stolen bases across 152 games.

• Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Posts another steal

  Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Pirates. Goldschmidt had a pair of singles and was knocked in by Brendan Donovan both times for the Cardinals' lone runs of the game. After going 0-for-9 over four games from Sept. 14-17, Goldschmidt has bounced back a bit. The first baseman is now batting .290 (18-for-62) in September and has a .246/.303/.412 slash line with 21 home runs, 60 RBI, 27 runs scored and 11 steals over 146 contests overall.
