Harvey announced his retirement from professional baseball Friday. Harvey last pitched in the majors in 2021, spending 2022 in the Orioles' minor-league system. His career began with a bang in New York with the Mets before it was sidetracked by injuries and poor performance. Harvey finishes his major-league career with a 50-66 record and 4.42 ERA over parts of nine seasons. He made one All-Star team.

Harvey elected free agency Thursday, per Triple-A Norfolk's transaction log. Harvey spent the entire season in the minor leagues and the majority of that time with Norfolk. He maintained a 4.31 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 54.1 innings and will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal in 2023.

Harvey (suspension) was activated by Triple-A Norfolk and will start Friday against Jacksonville, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Harvey made three starts between High-A Aberdeen and Double-A Bowie over the past couple weeks and has now been cleared to join Norfolk after completing his suspension for participating in the distribution of a prohibited Drug of Abuse. The veteran right-hander joined Baltimore on a minor-league deal in early April and already appears close to being fully stretched out given he covered 16 frames during his outings in the lower minors. He finished with a 6.27 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 95:37 K:BB across 127. innings for the Orioles last year.

Harvey (suspension) will report to High-A Aberdeen on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. Harvey signed a minor-league deal with Baltimore in early April, but he was handed a 60-game suspension, which began April 29, for participating in the distribution of a prohibited Drug of Abuse. The veteran right-hander has yet to fully serve the suspension, though he can pitch in the lower minors to get built up before being activated by Triple-A Norfolk. Harvey made 28 starts for the Orioles last season and had a 6.27 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 95:37 K:BB over 127.2 innings.

Harvey (suspension) will pitch in a simulated game in Sarasota on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Harvey has been serving a 60-game suspension since mid-May but is working on increasing his workload before he's ultimately cleared to return. The right-hander is eligible to begin a rehab assignment prior to completing his suspension, and he's expected to join the rotation at Triple-A Norfolk once he's ultimately activated.
