Gilmartin signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Tuesday. The well-traveled lefty is expected to report to Triple-A St. Paul as he begins his second stint with the Twins organization. Gilmartin, who most recently played for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, has previously seen big-league action with the Mets, Orioles and Rays. Over 81 career outings, Gilmartin owns a 4.34 ERA and 1.42 WHIP.

Gilmartin cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to the Rays' alternate squad, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Gilmartin went unclaimed on waivers once again, and he'll remain with the Rays as part of the alternate club during the postseason. The southpaw gave up four runs over 4.1 relief innings during the regular season.
