• Hyun Jin Ryu: Signs eight-year KBO deal

  Ryu signed an eight-year, $12.4 million contract Wednesday with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization, Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports. Ryu will turn 37 years old in March, and after signing a long-term deal overseas, his time in the majors is almost assuredly over. Assuming Ryu's deal doesn't contain an early out clause that would allow him to explore opportunities in North America, he'll finish his MLB career with a 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 11 seasons spent with the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

• Hyun Jin Ryu: Headed for KBO

  Ryu is expected to finalize a four-year contract with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization in the coming days, Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports. Ryu started 11 games for the Blue Jays this past season after completing his recovery from June 2022 Tommy John surgery, posting a 3.46 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with a 38:14 K:BB across 52 innings. The 36-year-old became a free agent this offseason, and after apparently not receiving any MLB offers to his liking, he's elected to return to the KBO, where he began his professional career before heading to North America in 2013. Though the length of his deal with Hanwha isn't known, given his advancing age, Ryu's MLB career could well be over.

• Blue Jays' Hyun Jin Ryu: Excluded from wild-card roster

  Ryu is not on the Blue Jays' AL Wild Card Series roster, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports. Ryu wasn't going to get a start in the series and has made just one relief appearance in his entire career, so his exclusion from the roster isn't a surprise. He could potentially be added should the Jays advance to the ALDS.

• Blue Jays' Hyun Jin Ryu: Lasts just three innings

  Ryu did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits over three innings against the Rays. He struck out one and did not issue any walks. Ryu got knocked around early, giving up one run on three hits in the first inning as the Rays took an early lead. He would allow another four hits over the next two frames before being relieved by Trevor Richards to open the fourth. The lefty has now failed to make it through five innings in three consecutive starts, allowing six or more hits in each of those outings. Ryu also recorded just one strikeout on the day, which marked his season low.

• Blue Jays' Hyun Jin Ryu: Rocked by Rays

  Ryu came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Rays, coughing up five runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two. Two of the long balls came in the first inning, as Ryu served up a solo shot to Yandy Diaz and a three-run blast to Josh Lowe. The veteran southpaw avoided his fourth loss of the season when the Blue Jays took the lead in the top of the eighth inning, only for closer Jordan Romano to blow the save in the ninth. Ryu's failed to complete five innings in two straight starts, and he has a 4.32 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB through 25 innings in September. With the Jays in a dogfight for a wild-card spot, he may need to step things up in his final outing of the regular season -- a rematch with the Rays back in Toronto next weekend.
