  • The Rays reassigned Reed to minor-league camp Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. He was one of three relievers sent packing as the Rays reduced their group at big-league camp to 38 players. Reed, who made 12 appearances with the big club in 2021, is expected to see the bulk of his action at Triple-A Durham during the upcoming season now that he no longer possesses a spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Reed signed with the Rays as a non-roster invitee Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Reed pitched for the Rays last season but was limited to 9.2 innings due to thoracic outlet surgery. He recorded a 3.72 ERA in those frames, but his 7:6 K:BB wasn't particularly convincing.

  • Cody Reed: Becomes free agent
    By RotoWire

Reed rejected an outright assignment to the minors Friday and elected free agency, radio broadcaster Steve Carney reports. Reed recorded a 3.72 ERA in 9.2 innings for the Rays before spending most of the season on the injured list, first with a thumb injury and then following thoracic outlet surgery. He looked good in seven rehab outings to end the year, striking out 12 batters over 7.1 scoreless innings, so he'll seemingly be at full health heading into next season.

  • Reed (shoulder) fired a scoreless sixth inning during which he recorded two strikeouts in Triple-A Durham's win over Gwinnett on Saturday and now has three consecutive scoreless appearances with the Bulls. Reed was impressive over his 13 pitches, throwing eight for strikes in his third one-inning outing for the Bulls over a six-day period. The right-hander has recorded a 4:0 K:BB over the last pair of appearances as well, and he's certainly building up plenty of momentum heading into the offseason ahead of what should be a spring training without restrictions in 2022.

  • Rays' Cody Reed: Returns to game action
    By RotoWire

Reed (shoulder) threw an inning for the rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Reed has already been ruled out for the season since he underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in early June, but he returned to game action Thursday for the first time since mid-May. The southpaw should continue to pitch throughout the offseason, and he's expected to be ready for the start of spring training in 2022.
