Grisham agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract with the Yankees on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports. Grisham signed a one-year deal with the Yankees in January after spending the last four seasons with the Padres. He appeared in just 76 regular-season games in 2024 while serving in a depth role in the outfield behind Alex Verdugo, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, and Grisham finished with a slash line of .190/.290/.385 with nine home runs and 31 RBI over 208 plate appearances. Grisham could see more playing time in 2025 if Soto and/or Verdugo opt to take their talents elsewhere in free agency, although Jasson Dominguez is expected to move into a starting role to replace one of them.

Grisham went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh. Following Gleyber Torres' leadoff double in the first inning, Grisham took the first pitch he saw from Bailey Falter deep for his ninth home run of the season. Grisham later drove in Jose Trevino in the third inning with an RBI single, giving him five games this season with three or more RBI. After playing 130 or more games each of the last three seasons, Grisham has filled a bench role in his first campaign with the Yankees. The 27-year-old finishes the regular season with a disappointing .190/.290/.385 slash line, nine home runs, 31 RBI, 21 runs scored and one stolen base.

Grisham hit a grand slam in his lone at-bat in Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Rangers. Grisham entered the game as a defensive replacement when the Yankees were down 10-2. He came up with a big slam in the ninth inning, but the Yankees didn't build on it. Grisham has functioned as a fourth outfielder lately and hadn't collected a hit since Aug. 14. He's slashing a paltry .187/.294/.380 with eight homers, 28 RBI, 20 runs scored and one stolen base over 195 plate appearances.

Grisham (hand) will start in center field and bat sixth Wednesday against the White Sox. Grisham hasn't played since he was hit in the hand by a pitch during the first game of Saturday's twin bill versus the Rangers, but he'll now return to the starting nine after a few days of rest. The 27-year-old outfielder is slashing .179/.304/.359 across 47 plate appearances since the All-Star break, though he has tallied a hit in three of his last four games.

X-rays on Grisham's left hand came back negative after he was hit by a pitch during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader versus Texas. Grisham made an early exit from the game after getting hit, but he appears to have escaped with just a bruise. The outfielder will likely stay on the bench for Saturday's nightcap, though he looks unlikely to require a trip to the injured list.
